Matchbook is a new bookmarking app (currently available for the iPhone with Android and Blackberry arriving soon) which is powered by Foursquare.

Location Based Bookmarking Made Simple

The idea is simple: rather than grabbing a matchbook from a restaurant that you have just enjoyed a meal at, bookmark and tag it using Matchbook. When you’re back in that part of town, or you’re trying to remember the name of the place just open the App and browse your map-based bookmarks.

Limited on Social Sharing

Whilst Matchbook is a proximity app (a fancy way of saying it uses your phones’ GPS to know where you are) it does not share your location with other Matchbook users (and other social sharing has been restricted). The developers of the App state that they conducted extensive research, particularly amongst women, and found that they tended to shy away from apps that ‘leaked’ private information.

We like the idea and will be putting Matchbook to the test.

Any excuse to head out for a great meal and a few drinks!
